Halifax Citadel National Historic Site



Halifax Citadel National Historic This is an elevated land that forms part of the several historical national sites of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Since 1749 when Halifax was founded by the English, Citadel Hill has had 4 fortifications built on it from that time. These fortifications were commonly called Fort George.

Officially it was the third fort that was in records to have been given the Fort George name after King George III of England on October 20, 1798.

Number one, two, and fourth forts were officially known as Halifax Citadel. Parks Canada now runs Halifax Citadel as a national historic site of Canada. It has done a lot of work to bring back the fort to its former Victorian-era glory when it was first constructed.
